We interviewed Jennifer Boyd PA of Boyd Wellness about functional medicine 101, which looks at the basic understanding of root causes.
Functional medicine uses comprehensive clinical, biological and diagnostic testing techniques to find and address the root causes of chronic illnesses. Typical Western medicine, on the other hand, uses pharmaceutical medications to suppress symptoms rather than finding and addressing the root cause.
Functional medicine, also known as the biomedical approach, considers any and all of the following factors as causes of chronic illness:
- Gut dysbiosis
- Immune dysregulation
- Nutritional deficiencies
- Hormonal imbalances
Functional medicine can and has been used to recover children from:
- Autoimmune disorders
- Mood disorders
- Lyme disease
- Type 2 diabetes
- Type 1 diabetes
Listen in to learn more about this exciting form of medicine.
