In this blog post, Renee Rotkopf explains how meditation and hypnosis are tools to boost our creative consciousness.
Change is a creative process that starts within from our creative consciousness. We often hear people say “it’s just your imagination”, but the imagination is a powerful tool that can help us make real, lasting changes in our lives. Our conscious mind, that which we are aware of, represents only 5% of our mind’s activity; this mean that 95% is controlled by the unconscious mind, including all of our behaviors, decisions, cravings, and automatic actions.
The Subconscious Mind
The subconscious mind is a very special part of our unconscious, and its functions include:
- Operating just below the conscious mind
- Storing all of the memories and information that you can recall
- Living in the moment
- Being intimately connected to our emotions and our body’s functions
- Running programs
- Being able to be programmed to learn new behaviors
The subconscious does not know the difference between what is real and what is imagined. When we watch a movie or have a dream, the experience can feel incredibly real, which is because our mind and emotions are linked and memories are stored in our body. When we can consciously program our mind, new behaviors become second nature, like learning to drive. Once learned, you don’t have to think about it. That is the subconscious mind in action.
Creating Change
Creating change is about releasing old beliefs and creating new concepts, and this inner work can be accomplished through meditation and hypnosis. In meditation we sit in silence, focus our breath, and tune into the present moment, which enables us to become more consciously aware of our thoughts and feelings, learning how to observe without judgment. Meditation creates an intimate relationship to our inner world, enabling us to let go of what no longer serves us and allowing more peace, acceptance, kindness, balance and possibility within our mind and body.
Guided Meditation
Guided meditation is more focused and intention based. Guided meditation can have many positive effects, including:
- Deep relaxation
- Anxiety relief
- Enhanced concentration
- Improved memory skills
Through words and imagery, we can activate our imagination and engage the subconscious mind, planting new seeds for change.
Hypnosis
Hypnosis is a highly focused trance-like state, similar to guided meditation but with a greater emphasis on changing behaviors and reprogramming old patterns. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis and uses the power of our imagination to tap into our own creative consciousness. Hypnosis is a powerful tool for transformation and healing, enhancing our inner language, symbols and visualization skills to facilitate a mind-body connection. Hypnosis can empower someone to shift the energy of unwanted behaviors into a more positive and desired state. Some of the benefits include:
- Reducing anxiety, phobias, spontaneous behaviors, and depression
- Reducing pain management
- Ending bad habits and addictive behaviors such as smoking, alcohol use and cravings
- Improving sleep
- Improving commitment to self-directed goals
Both guided meditation and hypnosis are wonderful practices for both adults and children. In fact, they are especially good practices for children because they are already so in touch with their imagination. Because the subconscious does not know the difference between what is real and what is imagined, visualization is very important.
When you visualize a goal, you are creating a virtual future and plant seeds for change. With repetition, you nourish those thoughts, and align your mind and body. The clearer your vision, the stronger your feelings, the more you can achieve your goals.
